United States Technologies, Inc (UST) Awarded Multiple Contracts to Modernize the WSR- 88D Transmitter Control and Monitoring System for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
Fair Lawn, NJ – December 7, 2015 – United States Technologies, Inc. (UST), a small, privately-owned business located out of Fair Lawn, NJ has been awarded two (2) high value contracts for design and manufacturing support to upgrade the WSR-88D NEXRAD (Next-Generation Weather Radar) Doppler weather radar systems operated by the National Weather Service (NWS) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the US Air Force (USAF). NEXRAD is a network of 159 high resolution S-Band Doppler weather radars located throughout the continental U.S. that detects precipitation and atmospheric movement or wind. NEXRAD is the primary detection system used by the NWS to issue severe weather events and is used by both the FAA and USAF to support the safety of its flight operations. One of the systems main functions is to provide real-time data for tornado prediction.
The first contract, valued at $2,291,346, is for the design, development and manufacture of a single Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) to replace the current four card design and the design, development and manufacture of a Printed Wiring Board (PWB) to replace the current wire- wrapped backplane circuitry. The contract calls for UST to manufacture a total of 260 Circuit Card Assemblies and 260 Printed Wiring Boards.
The second contract, valued at $1,966,000, is for the manufacture of a new component known as the WSR-88D Signal Processor Interface Panel (SPIP). This contracts calls for UST to manufacture a total of 220 Signal Processor Interface panels.
